Globalization and the Service Workplace was an Exploratory Workshop funded by a grant from the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of British Columbia, awarded to Principal Investigators Danielle van Jaarsveld, Sauder School of Business, and Daniyal Zuberi, Sociology.

The workshop was held Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Peter Wall Institute of Advanced Studies. It brought together invited participants from around the world and focused on the outsourcing and offshoring of service work, and the outcomes of this reorganization for the service workforce across both developed and developing countries.
